Mom devoted her life to raising her family and welcoming all friends into our home. Mom was a social and high-spirited soul, and she had the gift-of-gab, never missing an opportunity to make a new acquaintance or bring a smile to someone’s face. She enjoyed many dinner parties with her friends and family. Mom loved cards and games and cherished all opportunities to spend an afternoon or an evening playing bridge with her dear friends; not to mention a few all-night bridge games. Countless hours have been spent cheering on her favoured Blue Jays and Maple Leaf’s, through thick and thin.
Mom was born and raised in Sunny Brae (Moncton) NB, later moving to Wilmot Ave in Riverview to put down roots and raise a family with her high school sweetheart Harold after marriage. In the second half of her life the family moved to Lower Sackville NS. However, her first and only true home has always been the family cottage in Point-du-Chene, NB, where many precious memories have been made: playing card games well into the night, family parties, thanksgiving dinners, endless sunsets and walking on the wet sand. Mom’s cottage neighbours were like family to her, and she looked forward to hearing all the updates every spring. Mom and dad also spent many days sailing the Northumberland Strait with their young family.
Mom is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 61 years, Harold and their children Karla (Donnie) MacNeil, Nancy (Robert Murray) Phillips, Margaret (Wayne Ward) Phillips, and Harold (Jennifer) Phillips. Grandchildren: Annie (Devon), Logan (Maddi), Kayleigh (Kaleb), Abby, Emma, and great grand-daughter Harper.
During her last few months, Mom had a tough courageous battle with cancer. We are now comforted knowing she is in peace and re-united with her much-loved and missed parents and brother.
Mom “Nana” we love you and will greatly miss you, your stories, your games and your ability to gather us together. Our lives will forever be a little greyer and duller without you in it. You will forever be alive in our memory and in our hearts.
We would like to thank the compassionate nurses of the VON who visited regularly and the Palliative Care team, including Dr Jeff Dempster, for their support in the last few weeks of mom’s life. A celebration of mom’s life is being planned for Sunday, September 22nd 10 am – 11:30 pm at Snow’s Funeral Home Clayton Park. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Chron’s and Colitis Association of Canada, Canadian Cancer Society, or charity of choice.
