Edwin Thomas Tilley

Tilley, Edwin Thomas “Sonny”, - It is with heartfelt sadness that the family announces the death of Edwin on July 31, 2010, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, surrounded by his family. Born in Halifax April 28, 1933, he was the foster son of the late William Owen and Emily Ryan. An avid hockey and baseball player in his youth, his enthusiasm was rekindled in his children’s love of sports. He was one of the founding members of TASA and was instrumental in having the ball field established in Greenwood Heights, Timberlea. Edwin retired after 37 years service with William Neilson Ltd. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marie Iris (Walsh); his son, Paul, wife Barbara (Dow), grandson Garrett, Timberlea; his son, Michael, wife Lisa (O’Brien), grandson Jamie, Sambro Head; his daughter, Dianne, husband Mark Weston, grandchildren, Nicole and Andrew, Upper Tantallon; brother-in-law, Robert Murphy; a special niece, Dawn Ryan; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Edwin and Catherine (Buckley) Tilley; and sister, Annie, in infancy. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held Thursday, August 5 at 2 pm at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax with a reception immediately following, then a private family interment. Family flowers only. Donations, if so desired, to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
