Age 84, of Halifax, passed away December 2, 2019, with her loving family by her side. Born in Garnish, N.L., she was the eldest daughter of the late Brigadiers Baden Frank and Elizabeth (Rowe) Hallett. Jean was the mother to her entire extended family. She was a faithful member of the Salvation Army Fairview Citadel and loved the band. She had a sharp mind and regularly did the New York Times Crossword Puzzle. She was never without a book, often having two or three on the go. She was a loving, generous person, always ready with a warm welcome to anyone who came to her home, either for a short or long stay. Her loving husband Gerald, cared for her at home and missed her immensely when advancing dementia required her to move into Maplestone. She is survived by her daughter, Debra Mitchell; sons, Frank, Donald (Susan) and Christopher (Amanda); sister, Heather (Lorne) Greene; sister-in-law, Lt. Col. June Marshall; and brother-in-law, Ambrose Harnum. She will be greatly missed by her 10 grandchildren and Lauren and Brendan (who were like grandchildren to her) as well as her many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband, Gerald; daughter, Elizabeth; brother, Frank and sisters, Ida and Donna. We are deeply grateful for the loving care and attention our mother and our family received from the care team at Maplestone. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation/funeral service. A private burial will be held for the family, with Captain Brent Hass officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army Fairview Citadel Band or Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
