Doris was born in Saint John, NB on February 28th, 1935 to Sterling Edwin and Dorothy May (Duke) Watters. She grew up in the small community of Midwood, just east of Saint John, where she enjoyed her childhood summers swimming in the ocean at Little River beach with her family and friends. Doris attended Simon Regional High School and Modern Business College.
While still a teenager Doris moved to Halifax for work and at age 19 she married her loving husband of over 66 years, Henry Malloy. Doris had worked part time at the Eaton's department store for many years while at the same time managing a busy household and raising four active boys. She had been a canvasser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. She loved to write and recite poetry, to sing, and to entertain friends and family playing the piano, a natural talent guided by her father. Her homemade bread and biscuits were cherished.
She is survived by Henry and her adoring sons William (Carolyn), Victoria, BC, Lewis (Mariana), Bedford, NS, James and Michael, Bedford, NS. Doris's two grandsons, Liam and Aidan, had spent the evening prior to her passing visiting with her. She remarked of the love and joy they gave her and that their visit had raised her spirits.
Doris was the first born in her family and is survived by her siblings and their families residing throughout North America: her sisters Jessie Shirley Browne, Ellenor Alma Lee, Helen Fern Heustadt, and Ann Marie Clancey, and her brothers Robert, Elden, Norman, and Gordon Watters.
Doris lived her life with a strong Christian faith. Together with Henry she was a devout member of Faith City Church and had built a community of lifelong friends there. Doris possessed a warm, loving, and happy social nature and loved to give hugs. Those that knew her will remember her fondly and miss her greatly.
