Halifax – G. David Stewart, 79, of Dartmouth, NS died Saturday, November 16, 2013. He was born in Malagash, NS on April 5, 1934, a son of Alexander M. Stewart and Marjorie Belle (Beattie) Stewart. He attended Tatamagouche High School before joining Nova Scotia Light and Power, later NSPC, where he worked until retirement.
Mr. Stewart was a member of the Virgin Lodge No.3 for over 30 years, the Chebucto Richardson Council No 3, Nova Scotia Conclave No.3, George S. Wright No. 27, and Charles E. Richardson of the Grand Chapters of Royal Arch Mason. He was also a member of Amity No. 40, IOOF. He was a long time member of Rockingham United Church where he was an active member in the Men’s Choir and Senior Choir. Later Dave joined the Stardusters Square Dance Club with his wife. During that time he also sang with the Dartmouth Men’s Choir.
Dave enjoyed traveling with his wife, many family gatherings, and summers spent at their cabin in Port Shoreham. He enjoyed carpentry, building wooden toys for his grandsons, sailing, and was an avid reader.
Surviving are his wife Ruby (Sceles Dowling) Stewart; his son, Gregory D. Stewart, daughter-in-law Carol Eddy of Halifax; daughter Luanna (Stewart) Nau, son-in-law Paul A. Nau of Brunswick ME; his step-daughter Diana (Dowling) Hope, son-in-law Andrew Hope of Dartmouth; his sister Jean (Stewart) Hancock of BC; his sister Dawn (Stewart) Cameron of BC; his brother, Carl Stewart of AB; and his grandchildren Alexander Eddy-Stewart; George and Charles Nau; and Isaiah Hope. Also surviving is the mother of his children, Lawna L. Stewart. He was predeceased by his sister Marion (Stewart) Colquhoun.
Visitation will be at J. A. Snow’s Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax, (455-0531) on Wednesday, November 20th from 6 – 9pm. Funeral services will be held at the Rockingham United Church, Halifax on Thursday, November 21 at 1 PM.
