FAULKNER (TUCKER) Daphne Hilda Joan, of Halifax, died peacefully on May 5, 2018. Born in April of 1922 in Parrsboro, she was the daughter of the late Hilton S. and Hilda B. (Strachan) Tucker. She was christened in St. James Presbyterian Church but grew up in the United Church, with its Mission Band, CGIT, Junior Choir, operettas and plays. Daphne was member of St. Andrew’s United Church in Halifax. After a business course, she worked for a year in a law office in Parrsboro and then at Imperial Tobacco in Halifax. She joined the VAD section of the Canadian Red Cross doing volunteer work at Pier 21. They met the War Brides and their children and accompanied them on the train as far as Montreal. October 1946, Daphne married Fred George Faulkner. During her children’s school years, she was secretary of the Home and School, a member of the LA of the Girl Guide Association and a founding member of the Westmoor Horticultural Society. Retiring after 25 years in the VG Hospital Pharmacy, she volunteered for the NS Cancer Society office. For over 10 years during May she enjoyed travelling with a group of friends on heritage tours to England, Scotland, Wales, Provence and Portugal. She wrote poetry and was treasurer of the NS Poetry Society. She loved nature and spent many enjoyable summers and weekends at her cottage in Parrsboro. She belonged to the quilters club of St. George’s Round Church, where she sewed quilts for children. She belonged to the Halifax Ladies Musical Club. She was a member of several ski clubs beginning with the Halifax Ski Club in the 40’s and the last was the Halifax Ladies Cross Country Ski Club. Daphne and family were lifelong members of the Waegwoltic Club. Her love of history led her to join the Royal NS Historical Society, Parrsborough Shore and Rockingham Historical Societies and the NS Heritage Trust. Her life’s loves were family, poetry and nature. She is survived by children, Joan (Brian) Jobb, Lunenburg, Debbie Gomez, Ottawa, Alan (Monique), Courtney, BC and Nancy (David Gardner), Halifax; grandchildren, Laura, Rebecca and Caitlin Gomez; Jennifer (Ian) Farrell, Nicole (Lionel) Fernandes, Anna (Ryan) Riordon, Stuart Jobb; six great-grandchildren; five nieces and five nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred, sisters, Barbara, Elizabeth, Olive; and brother, Stuart. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Mom’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
