It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Christine (Chris) Stewart, age 74 of Bedford, on September 2, 2021. She leaves behind her loving husband of 52 years, Dr. Andrew (Drew) Stewart; daughter Wendy Stewart; grandchildren Rowan, Jonathan, and Jocelyne Stewart; brother David (Karin) MacLaren; nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by son Michael Stewart. Born in Halifax, Chris was the daughter of the late George and Frances (Dixie) MacLaren. She attended Queen Elizabeth High School but moreover enjoyed her art classes at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design where she studied drawing, painting, pottery, jewelry, and carving. Chris studied Arts at Dalhousie University, where she met her future husband. She continued to pursue her passion for the arts over the years and was a member of Painter’s Palette, all while raising her family and assisting with Drew’s dental practice. Chris lived in Bedford for over 40 years and enjoyed volunteering with numerous community groups. She spent countless hours volunteering with the Bedford, Halifax, and Dartmouth Skating Clubs where her daughter figure skated. Highlights included the creation of ICECATS, a learn to skate program she designed for preschoolers, and serving on local and provincial skating boards, as well as the 1995 Canadians Legacy Committee and the Skate Canada Membership committee. Chris enjoyed 40 years with her UCW Fireside Unit group, of which she was awarded life membership and had many lifelong friends. She loved art, music, reading, strolls along the beach at the cottage with her faithful dog friends, Nicky and Soleil, and cruising the world with Drew. Thank you to the QEII palliative care unit for their care in recent years, and to Chris’s niece Barbara Stewart for her guidance during her illness. Cremation has taken place under the care of JA Snow Funeral Home. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, visitation and funeral will take place in October. Donations can be made in Chris’s memory to Cancer Care, QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation.
