Morris. Together for 47 years of which nearly 43 were in marriage, I and our son Sean are left
with heavy hearts that I am sure will heal with time. The pain we are feeling now is a testament
to how much she meant to us in life.
Born in Winchester, England to Peter and Joan Aldridge, she and her family, including brother
Tony and sister Carol, immigrated to Canada in 1966. During her years in school, Christine was
an avid athlete participating in track and field, swimming and gymnastics. After graduating in
1975 from Prince Andrew High School she studied accounting and worked for several years in
the field for local businesses in the Halifax/Dartmouth area. She eventually transitioned into
municipal administration and work for several years as the Town Clerk, Treasurer for the town
of Wabush in Labrador. While in Labrador; true to her athletic background in gymnastics, she
volunteered as a coach for the local gymnastics club in Labrador City.
Once she gave birth to our first child (Caitlin Amanda) in Sydney, Cape Breton, she became a
full time, stay-at-home mom. Two years later, in Grande Cache, Alberta she gave birth to our
second child (Sean Philip). While managing domestic affairs, she still was able to volunteer
with the local preschool. In 1997 the family move to Oakville, Ontario where we made many
fond memories with our friends on Winston Road. Christine also volunteered there as a
reading coach. We made it back East, to Dartmouth, in 2014.
Christine was a voracious reader with Leslie Crewe and Louise Penny as a couple of her
favourite authors. Her appetite for reading was so great that in days gone by when she had no
new books to read she would read the dictionary…true story. She also loved to drink red wine
and sitting outback on the deck watching the birds. Chickadees and Gold Finches were her
favourites.
Christine is survived by her husband Kevin, her son Sean and his half brother Jeff Chaffey,
mother Joan, sister Carol and brother Tony. She is predeceased by her father Peter (2005) and
daughter Caitlin (2010).
At this time we would like to thank the medical professionals, both at the Dartmouth General
Hospital and the Woodlawn Medical clinic who gave it their all to help Christine through the
difficult challenges she faced as her health declined.
There will not be a formal funeral service. Instead there will be an intimate visitation with family
and closest friends. A more inclusive celebration of life will be held later this year. In lieu of
flowers, if people so choose, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
