Bruce John Brown, 67, of Halifax, Nova Scotia passed away surrounded by his immediate family on July 30, 2020 at the QEII Hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia on August 22nd, 1952 he was the son of Brenton (Brent) Brown and Jennie (Cameron) Brown.
Bruce devoted the forty-five years of his professional life to helping those less fortunate. He worked with Cape Breton Addiction Services and Talbot House (Cape Breton) and was Director of the Hope Farm Society in Stewiacke, Nova Scotia and then worked as an advocate and champion for those with mental health issues at Metro Community Housing Association (Halifax).
Bruce was also an accomplished visual artist. He graduated with a degree in Editorial Design from the Ontario College of Art and Design. He taught composition and design at NSCAD before joining Metro Community Housing. He was also very active in the music community in Halifax and beyond.
He enjoyed nature and created beautiful outdoor gardens in his backyards.
Bruce was predeceased by his father Brenton (Brent) Brown. He is survived by his wife Tasha (Parsons) Brown, daughter Marishka Brown, sons Justin (Jordan Reed) and Aaron Brown; grandsons Colby Brown and Phoenyx McNeil-Brown, granddaughter Lulu Brown, mother Jennie (Cameron) Brown, brothers Barry (Patricia MacNeil), Calvin (Debbie MacAulay), and Douglas (Lars Willum), as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held at St. John’s Anglican Church, 2187 Larry Utech Blvd, Bedford, Nova Scotia on Saturday August 15, 2020 at 2:00 pm with Reverend Randy Townsend officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society, The Heart and Stroke Foundation, or Feed Nova Scotia.
