Brian was born in Hamilton on March 16, 1937. At the age of 17, he joined the Navy and was stationed in Nova Scotia. He was incredibly passionate about serving his country and frequently encouraged his children and grandchildren to consider joining the service.
It was in Halifax that he met his first love, Barbara Organ. The couple moved to Timberlea and started their family. Sadly, Brian had to retire from the Navy following the untimely passing of Barbara and needing to focus on the responsibility of raising three young children. He went on to work at the Department of National Defense until retiring in 1996.
Brian was an avid sportsman and enjoyed playing football and hockey with the Navy. He remained active throughout his life and was a devoted coach, referee, and organizer of his children's activities. He also enjoyed jogging daily and playing golf at Hartlen Point and Brightwood.
Brian was blessed with three loving partners throughout his life. Barbara Payne (nee Organ) was his first love, and together they had three children. Kim Payne (nee McAlpine) became a mother figure for his three boys, and he was grateful for her unconditional love. Barbara Grant was his partner during his early retirement years. They enjoyed golfing, building their dream home, and traveling together.
Brian was preceded in death by his wife Barbara (1976), father Albert (1993), mother Lily (1980), sister Bev (2023), and son Jeffery (2012). He is survived by his sons Darren and Jason (Jennifer Plamondon), his daughter-in-law Florence McCarey-Payne, and his cherished grandchildren Maria, Morrgan, Cecilia, Christian and Izaac.
Brian will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his memory will live on forever in the hearts of his loved ones. A family service will happen in the days to come.
