Brian Stewart Howard Delo

It is with deep sadness that we have to say goodbye to an amazing husband, father and friend to many, Brian Stewart Howard Delo, who passed on October 25, 2022. Brian was predeceased by his mother Elizabeth Delo and father Stewart Delo. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years of adventures and happiness Janet, and his two daughters Jennifer and Heather.

Brian will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him over the years. Brian's sense of humor and strength will live on with his family. His love for family came first before anything, followed by his many friends and his spoiled cat KD. Aptly nicknamed Doctor Doolittle, he had an affinity with almost every animal he met in life including a seagull he named Jonathan. His many interests included geology, history, travel, peeper hunting with Tony, Mrs. H and Janet. Shooting targets and many adventures including their love of fiddling with drones. Brian is probably sitting with his best friend Tony right now planning to cause trouble and chaos on a neighbor they disliked.

A proud retired RCMP officer and member of the Provincial government, he continued to serve his community as a passionate volunteer at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, the Museum of Natural History and Citadel Hill over the years. Brian was a living, breathing and walking fountain of historical knowledge and loved nothing more than to share his passion with any who asked or showed even the slightest interest. He fought hard to battle this devastating disease and was a warrior in his stoic efforts to continue to live life to the fullest. The epitome of this amazing attitude was displayed in his “Fuck Cancer” tattoo on his calf much to the dismay of his wife.

Brian’s favorite words of wisdom included “ it is the way it is”, “f**k cancer “ , “ if you can count on one hand the amount of good friends you have you are lucky” and “ live, love, laugh “. These words of wisdom have gotten us through so many things as a family and we are so proud to continue to live by his words and his example of strength and commitment. We thank him for being the best husband, father and friend that he was. We are all proud to have known him and all who knew him were grateful to have had him in their lives for no matter how long.

We would like to thank the following people for assisting him in that battle and support; the entire QEII 11th floor team of chemo nurses, Donna Grant, Dr. Katerina Neumann, Dr. Nathan Lamond, Dr. Jeff Porter, Dr. Mike Rivers-Bowerman, Bayshore Home Health Care, the Halifax Hospice and especially our palliative care team whose assistance in guiding the entire family was invaluable. This group of professionals treated him with the utmost respect and dignity at all times and we as a family are incredibly grateful.

We would like to thank as a family the close friends and neighbor’s for their love, support and compassion in his fight. You all will be forever part of our hearts and family! Blood does not make a family, love does.

Due to capacity restrictions, a Celebration of Life will take place by invite only from the family. A private interment will be held prior to the Celebration of Life.
