Alan Geoffrey Little died in the company of his sons on November 29, 2023. He was 84 years old. Alan is survived by sons Chris (Regina), Scott (Tausha) and Kevin (Kim), grandchildren Samantha and Lucy and brother Ross (Annette). Alan was predeceased by his beloved wife Lenora and his parents, Geoffrey and Alice. The family would like to thank Parkstone Enhanced Care, Fleming Court staff, and the staff at the Berkley on Gladstone, for their exceptional care.
Alan grew up in West End Halifax, where he would meet Lenora. He spent his summers swimming and boating at his parent’s cottage in St. Margaret’s Bay. Later he worked in the dining car of CN Rail’s train line to Montreal.
After graduating from Dalhousie University Alan spent most of his working career as the senior accountant for the Nova Scotia Department of Health. His work took him to every hospital in Nova Scotia where budgets were negotiated. Every summer Alan would pack up his family and visit a local rural hospital while his wife and sons explored the community. On those drives Alan would spy unique wildflowers and plants. The family would leap out of the car, extract these gems, and bring them back to the family garden. Alan was an exceptional gardener, especially in growing grapes (neighbours would lock their car doors to prevent him from weekly deposits of zucchinis).
After the loss of his wife Lenora, Alan created a new life for himself, attending movies and concerts, enjoying time with friends and neighbours, participating in a senior’s group, joining a local coffee club, and being helpful wherever he could.
Alan loved his family and was happiest when they were all in his presence. He especially loved having each grandchild to himself, for a full day of adventures all over the city.
A gathering to remember and celebrate Alan will be held on Saturday December 9th at 10 am in J. A. Snow Funeral Home on 339 Lacewood Drive in Halifax with a reception to follow.
