Susan French Weichsel

Susan Weichsel passed away January 1, 2024 after a brief illness. She was 84 years old having been born November 6, 1939 in Minneapolis, MN to George and Loretto French. She was a proud graduate of Washburn High School, Class of ’57 having attended her 50th and 60th high school reunions with her husband John. After attending Grinnell College and graduating from the University of Minnesota, Susan left Minneapolis for Washington, DC. Susan obtained her MSW degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and worked as a social worker in foster care.

Susan’s travels then took her to New Jersey where she studied at the NJ Psychoanalytic Institute to become a psychoanalyst. She moved to Prospect Avenue in Hackensack to an apartment across the street from her future husband John’s apartment. They met walking their dogs on Prospect Avenue. The dogs did not get along, but Susan and John did. They would have celebrated 48 years of marriage this April.

Susan and John were best friends and did everything together, travelling all over the world to England, Holland, Germany, Israel, the Caribbean, Guatemala, Florida and much more. Susan’s father was elected to the Minnesota legislature the year Susan was born. She often stated that she never had a birthday growing up, so John made sure that every year they did something special on her birthday, usually traveling, whether to Sanibel when they owned a condominium there, or to Mexico to visit her granddaughter Mia and Mia’s Mom Sara.

Susan was also very involved in John’s law office, managing their office building and doing the office bookkeeping.

Susan is survived by her husband John, her son Jonathan and his daughter Mia; her son Jeffrey, his wife Jenia, and their children Nikita, Thomas and Paul.

Shiva will begin today Sunday January 7th after the funeral at the multi purpose room at our building right after the funeral until 5 and after that at our apartment, 20 West Palisade Ave, Apt#3104,Englewood, NJ 07631.

Shiva will continue Monday & Tuesday from 5-9 at our residence 20 W Palisade Ave Apt 3104 Englewood.
