Susan Leyden was born December 18, 1953 in Yonkers, New York to Claire and Nat Evans. She had three siblings; an older sister Judy, and two younger, twin brothers Howard and Stephen. At two years old, Susan and her family moved from Yonkers to Buckingham Drive in Teaneck, New Jersey where she and her parents met lifelong friends.
In 1972, Susan graduated from Teaneck High School where she met her husband Steven Leyden to whom she was married from 1976-1992.
She attended Dames Business School in Denver, Colorado and began her career in New York City’s garment district, following in her father's footsteps. Susan loved fashion, had impeccable taste and was often told she would make an excellent stylist. In the 1970s, Susan tragically lost her father, then her 21 year old brother Howard and a few years later her 25 year old brother Stephen.
She had her first and only child, Nicole, in 1985 and lived in Fort Lee, NJ for over 30 years.
Susan was a single mother since 1992 and worked 7 days a week to build a jewelry business that became very successful. She truly loved working and having her own business. She was the epitome of an independent woman and this period of her life was one of the best for her.
With very little family left, she considered her friends her family and spent many Jewish holidays with them. Susan was fiercely loving, generous and tenacious. She survived so much loss but still had so much love to give. She would help anyone who needed it.
Susan’s funny and vivacious energy lit up a room. Anytime you were with her there was always something to laugh about. Recently, she was happily living in Brooklyn, New York and was looking forward to getting a dog very soon.
Susan was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. There will never be another like her. .
