Belle Rosenthal, 91, passed surrounded by family on Wednesday, November 3rd, 2021. Born on December 28th, 1929, to Samuel and Sarah Landman, she was raised in the Bronx alongside her best friend and twin sister, Frieda. As teenagers, the two worked together at Macy’s on 34th Street in New York City, giving seed to one of Belle’s favorite passions: spending many hours browsing retail and grocery store aisles while making friends with any and all fellow shoppers, including her time later in life working at Sealfons in Ridgewood, NJ.
Belle loved to tell stories, garden, knit, paint and sculpt. She was a devoted daughter, sister, friend, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She wed Howard Rosenthal in a Jewish ceremony on September 4th, 1948, and in 1962 the two established roots in Paramus, NJ to raise their family. In 1984, she moved to nearby Hackensack where she resided for the remainder of her life. Belle was known for moving at her own speed, and although sometimes late, she was proud to live through eleven decades and help bloom three generations of family. Belle will be remembered for being a talented artist, smart, fiercely independent, and tougher than most. She had quiet, yet unyielding, strength, and in the spirit of one of her favorite musicians, Frank Sinatra, she lived her life her way.
She is survived by sister Frieda Marshall Freed; children Sharon Gross, Rena Harris and Stuart Rosenthal; children-in-law Marc Gross, Paul Harris, and Judee Rosenthal; nieces and nephews Wendy and Ken Schwartz, Keith Marshall, Dana Marshall, Roberta Morris, Ronnie Landman, and Elliott Landman; grandchildren Emily Donatello, Andrew Gross, Eric Rosenthal, Grant Harris, Ryan Rosenthal, and Jesse Rosenthal; grandchildren in-law Gary Donatello and Catherine Rosenthal; great-grandchildren Mia, Hailey, Henry, and Nolan; and many great-grand nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Cedar Park and Beth El Cemeteries (735 Forest Ave, Paramus, NJ 07652) on Sunday, November 7th at 10:45 A.M.
Shiva to be held Monday, November 8th, from 12:00 PM to 7:00PM at the Club Room of the Pierre Apartments, 185 Prospect Ave, Hackensack, NJ 07601.
