He graduated from Northern Illinois University with a degree in marketing but spent his career as an accountant. Following his graduation he served in the United States Army during Vietnam.
He returned from the army and worked for American Concrete Company and then at ArrowPneumatics in Broadview, Il., for 32 years retiring as company Controller.
Following his retirement from ArrowPneumatics he worked for Communications Science in Buffalo Grove and Strategy Group in Chicago. He also owned MB Accounting in Gurnee providing tax consulting services to many including those who would not have been able to afford tax help.
When he wasn’t walking or biking on the many forest preserve trails, he could be found watching his beloved Chicago Bears and Chicago White Sox. He never missed the NFL Draft and made many visits to the Bears training camp to check out new talent. He could quote sports stats with the best of them. He could be heard throughout the house, and possibly the entire neighborhood when the Bears were losing.
Grandpa Mike never missed a chance to lunch at Portillo’s, drink his favorite diet Coke or grab one of the peanut butter cups he kept in the freezer. His love of chocolate chip cookies and brownies also kept his grandkids very happy.
He loved rock music with Bruce Springsteen being a favorite which led him and his wife, Marie, to some awesome concerts. He also loved comedy and was a fan of many stand-up comedians such as Lewis Black.
Grandpa Mike introduced his brothers, sisters, nieces, nephew and grandchildren to his love of roller coasters and amusement parks such as Cedar Point and Great America.
Grandpa Mike was always available to any kid who needed someone to listen, to advise, for pick-up and drop-offs and to provide money when needed and sometimes just because. He was always just a phone call away.
Mike was a beloved big brother to Bruce (Linda), Sandy, Jo, Kathy and David Breault. He was uncle Mike to Eric, Stephanie and Amber.
Mike was stepdad to Diana and “poppy” to Desiree whom he loved with all his heart. He was a much-loved grandpa to Jesse, Amanda and Melanie and great grandpa to Skye, Raiden and Jace who loved those trips to McDonalds and Wendys. He was also a grandpa of the heart to Rikki, Erica, Rachel, Taylor, Hannah, Emma, Jacob, Mikey and Douglas.
Grandpa Mike was a truly kind, honest, generous man who handed out lunches, socks and money to the homeless he encountered as he walked from the train station in Chicago to his office and anywhere else he saw them.
He never missed a chance to tell Marie he loved her and that she was pretty, to which she often replied that he drove her stark, raving mad but she loved him, too. He and Marie made it to Europe and took many of the kids on a few adventures also.
Mike was proceeded into the universe by his son, Jeff, who passed away of leukemia at the age of 10. In Mike’s memory, those who wish to do so are invited to donate to The Leukemia Research Foundation
