Marvin Nunley, 87, passed away on December 19, 2024, at Hospice Alliance in Pleasant Prairie, WI. He was born on July 10, 1937, in Colbert County, Alabama, the second child of Bernard and Jewel Nunley. After the passing of his older sister Bernice at the age of four, Marvin became the eldest of nine siblings.
At the age of 18, Marvin left Alabama for Zion, Illinois, where he began working to support his family back home. A proud Marine and skilled commercial electrician by trade, Marvin worked for companies such as Fansteel, Johns Manville, and Chrysler. His favorite workplace was Warwick Electronics in Zion, where he met his wife, Judy Martin. They married on July 15, 1967, and shared 57 wonderful years together. They raised two daughters and made their home in Winthrop Harbor for many years until retiring in Maud, Alabama.
Marvin had a lifelong passion for music. He collected violins and guitars and once owned a music store in downtown Zion called “Music Exchange.” He loved visiting flea markets nearly every Sunday, proudly sharing how little he paid for his treasures with family and friends. Marvin was also talented at drawing and instrument repair and enjoyed reading historical books and listening to Bluegrass music.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Orville (Bonnie); his sister Barbara Bolton (Ed); and his sister Bernice. Marvin is survived by his wife Judy; daughters Kathy Richards (Terry) and Kristy Peterson (Shawn); grandchildren Dominick, Zachary, Danielle (Matthew), Bailey, Sidney, and Grayson; great-granddaughter Lively; siblings Rebecca Weatherford (Johnny), Vernon, Marcus (Loretta), Baxter (Donna), Mark (Connie), and Kenny (Patricia); as well as many nieces and nephews.
Marvin will be remembered for his sense of humor and passion for music. His legacy will endure through the many stories of his generosity.
A visitation for Marvin will be held Friday, January 3, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 N Cemetery Rd, Gurnee, IL 60031. A full obituary will appear as more information becomes available.
