Gary, a man whose spirit was as vast as the skies he once soared, passed away on December 6, 2024, just one day shy of his 92nd birthday. A true veteran, Gary proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, where he began his lifelong commitment to service and leadership.
Gary was a man of many talents. He was a master storyteller with a razor-sharp wit, a business entrepreneur, and an industrial engineer with a mechanical gift that never quit. He could fix anything — from engines to hearts — Gary was deeply involved with Habitat for Humanity, helping to build numerous homes, continuing his work well into his 80s. Even at that age, he could be found on consu•uction sites, harmer in hand, and a smile on his face. His commitment to giving was as strong as his love for a good party, where he'd be the life of the event, captivating everyone with his charm and storytelling. He will forever be remembered as a ladies' man with a heart of gold.
Gary's family was his greatest joy. He cherished every moment with his loved ones, from traveling the world to enjoying a meal out. He was a proud and active member of his community in Hicksville, OH, where he not only sang and acted in the local theater group but also helped build the sets, making the stage come alive with his passion and talent. As an active member of his Catholic church, Gary sang in the choir, filling the pews with his voice.
Though his last years were marked by a long battle with vascular dementia, Gary was never alone. His sons, Ben and Matt, selflessly put their lives on hold to care for him, showing an extraordinary depth of love and compassion. Ben, his sidekick, was his constant companion, a presence as steady and dependable as Gary himself. The devotion of Bernice, his home healthcare aide, and Angela, his nurse, was beyond measure, providing comfort and care when it was needed most.
Gary is survived by his beloved family: Cindy Adamek (Tim Murphy); Daniel Bojrab (Lauretta Bojrab); Cassandra Franklin; Matthew Bojrab-Recht; grandchildren, Leah Ferenchak, Darren Bojrab, Mikaila Franklin; and great-grandchildren, Zaiden Bojrab and Alina Ferenchak. He was preceded in death by his son, Benjamin Scott Bojrab-Recht, who was not just his son but his partner in life, a sidekick who made every adventure that much brighter.
Though there will be no formal service, Gary's memory will live on in every home he helped build, every story he told, and every smile he sparked. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that you honor his memory by donating to Habitat for Humanity, one of Gary's greatest passions, at habitat.org.
As we say see you later, we take comfort in the words of his favorite hymn of On Eagles' Wings:
"And he will raise you up on Eagles' wings,
Bear you on the breath of dawn,
Make you to shine like the sun,
And hold you in the palm of His hand."
Rest in peace, Gary. You've earned your wings.
