Patrick Joseph Michael Murphy

Patrick Joseph Michael Murphy, aged 73, of Guelph, Ontario, passed away peacefully on June 20th, 2024, surrounded by family and loved ones. He was born on December 9th, 1950, in Guelph to Jeannette and Thomas Murphy.

Patrick Murphy was a loving and devoted father to Shonna Murphy and Patrick Murphy Jr. He is also survived by his sister, Irene Macer. As a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews, he held a special place in his heart for his nephew, Kevin Macer, who was his right-hand man. He also valued the friendship he kept with the mother of his children Rhonda Murphy. Patrick Murphy is predeceased by his parents Jeannette and Thomas Murphy, his brother Thomas Murphy Jr. and his sister Marion Murphy.

Patrick Murphy graduated from GCVI and pursued a career in modeling, acting, and sales. He worked at Vanguard Steel for 27 years as a Sales Representative, where he was adored by his customers and co-workers for his magnetic personality, authenticity, and dedication.

Beyond his professional life, Patrick Murphy was passionate about playing the trumpet in drum corps. He started out with the Opti Knights Drum Corps when he was 12 years old. He then played with the Ajax Sea Cadets before joining the Royalaires, where he performed as a soloist from 1970 to 1976. In later years, he reunited with past bandmates in The Preston Scout House band, rekindling his love for the trumpet and the camaraderie of traveling and performing with friends.

Patrick Murphy will be remembered for his kindness, humor, generosity, courage, positive outlook, and the profound impact he had on the lives of those around him. His legacy will live on through the many memories shared by his family and friends.

A celebration of Patrick Murphy’s life was held on June 20th, 2024, at Shakespeare Arms, where family and friends had a final cheers and shared their memories.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the GCVI Music Program in Patrick Murphy’s memory. The donations will provide funds for a student (or students) to purchase their own trumpet and subsidize their travel costs with the school marching band, who otherwise could not afford the experience. This cause was close to Patrick’s heart because of the profound experience playing the trumpet and traveling with the Royalaires and Scout House had on him. His last week was spent surrounded by the lifelong friends he made there, reminiscing about all the good times and memories made. It is the family’s hope that these donations could provide the same experience for other “West Ender” youth.
