Linda was born at the Guelph General Hospital on Sunday, March 1, 1942, and died peacefully at home in Guelph surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, July 14, 2024. Linda is survived by her husband of 56 years, Provan Wylie, whom she married on September 7, 1968, at the Dublin Street United Church in Guelph. Linda and Provan have two daughters, Lesley Rae Kelly and Laura-Rae Lavallee (Nick) and six grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents Archibald Theaker and Margueritta (Thomas) Theaker, her brother Frederick Theaker (2016), sister-in-law Jane Theaker (2018) and brother-in-law David Wright (2011). Linda is survived by her sister Gail Wright.
Linda attended King George and Central Public Schools in Guelph and went to high school in Simcoe, Ontario where she was an honours student and developed a keen interest in athletics including basketball, volleyball, and especially track and field. Linda developed her love of curling later in life.
Upon graduation, she attended the Guelph General Hospital School of Nursing, where she received her Registered Nurse (RN) designation in 1963. Shortly thereafter, Linda went out west to the Edmonton General Hospital where she expanded her knowledge in the operating room. Linda returned to Ontario and enrolled in Nursing Administration at Western University. Following graduation, she accepted a head nurse position in the recovery room at the Hamilton Henderson General Hospital (now Juravinski) and then eventually became the first nurse at the Barton Street Jail in Hamilton.
Over their 56 years together, Linda and Provan enjoyed many trips both for business and pleasure, but nothing compared to their love of the beach and their summers at Hope Bay and then in Southampton, Ontario. Many lifelong friendships and memories were made.
Linda was known for her love of watching baseball, hockey, dogs, word puzzles and chocolate, but above all else she loved spending time with her two grandsons, Thomas and James, who were her pride and joy.
A sincere thank you to all of the family and friends who showed Linda how much she was loved, and to the staff at Grand River Hospital and the palliative care professionals who supported Mom towards the end.
