John Godin, a warrior, who was filled with love and caring, died on December 2, 2024 at his home in Guelph with his sister Elaine Garner and partner Connie Artymowicz by his side. Also the other love of his life, his cat Sparky. He has two other sisters who will miss him, Mary Fortin and Mary Dokis and a huge number of nieces and nephews.
John was born in Wolsley Bay on the French River. He was predeceased by his loving Mom Mamie Godin and father Eli Lebreque and siblings Betty Hampel, Dan Godin, Myrna Wice and Carol Flick.
John was very intelligent and excelled in all of his careers as a welder, psychiatric nurse and antique dealer. John’s flare for antiques was priceless. He knew everything about them, wood types, dating and names. Bill his best friend and John talked antiques all of the time. Antiques is how John met Connie. They had many adventures roaming the roads looking for antiques and going to the St. Lawrence Market to the antique market so that they could get a parking space at 1 in the morning. It was a love made in antique heaven. John loved rock and roll music. Some of his favorites were Metallica and The Rolling Stones. John and Elaine went to the Rolling Stones Concert in Ontario four years ago.
Our mother kept us in the woods when we were young so that we were never sent to residential schools. John was sexually abused when he was young and became an alcoholic for many years but quit on his own. He had colon cancer in 1989 and with the support of God and his family, he was cured.
We want to thank the amazing medical team. Dr. Luong looked after John better than we could ever imagined. Also to the nurses and PSWs. You are all the most thoughtful, kind and professional people we could ask for. You are all amazing and John loved you. We also want to thank family and friends for their support. You helped us get through this difficult time. We love you.
