Beloved father to Wayne, Shereen, Mike and grandfather to Isabelle and devoted husband to Sybil. Cherished brother to Carl and the late Gary. Fred Ramprashad made a profound impact over four decades at the University of Guelph, significantly contributing to the institution and its community. He was selected to be an Honorary Fellow by the Senate for his outstanding contributions to the life and development of the university. His academic work includes numerous publications and contributions to books and conferences.
Fred held key administrative roles, notably serving as Academic Assistant to the Dean from 1979 to 2001, and as Associate Dean of the Bachelor of Science Program until his retirement in 2005.
Inducted into the University Sports Hall of Fame in 2010 as a Builder, Fred was a dedicated supporter of Gryphon athletics, playing an integral role in helping student-athletes balance their academic and athletic commitments. His contributions to the athletics department earned him several accolades, including a 1997 CIAU hockey championship ring and the Dr. John Powell Award in 2001 for outstanding contributions to student-athletes.
Fred's leadership extended to the community, where he played a key role in leading the United Way Campaigns. Known for his humor, warm demeanor, and unwavering support for his colleagues and students, Fred’s legacy at the University of Guelph is celebrated with a scholarship established in his name by the College of Biological Science alumni.
Arrangements are entrusted to Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, 1099 Gordon St, Guelph. A visitation for Fred will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024, from 2:00-4:00 PM, followed immediately by a Celebration of Life Ceremony at 4:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. A reception will follow in the Hart Fellowship Lounge from 5:00-7:00 PM.
