Born to Scottish immigrants John Taylor Hogg and Fannie West, 'Betty' was pre-deceased by her loving husband Donald E. Raaflaub (2016) and brother Robert 'Bob' Hogg (wife Charleen). Her family home in Kirkland Lake was the setting for a brief courtship with Don, whereupon they married and were inseparable over 57 years.
Betty was proud of her early tenure at the Royal Bank, and she subsequently embraced her role as life partner to Don and consummate hostess at dinner parties with banking friends. At church socials, family get-togethers at Lake Cecebe, and in later life, at bridge parties and book club, Betty cut a stylish figure and made every gathering an occasion. While she fondly remembered her "house on the hill" in Kirkland Lake, she and Don had stops in Cambridge, Burlington and Thornhill before retiring happily in the Village by the Arboretum Guelph in 2000. Appreciation is extended to dear 'Village' friends who provided support following Don's passing.
Left to mourn are her family including devoted nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to honour and remember Betty at a funeral service at St. George's Anglican Church, 99 Woolwich Street, Guelph on Friday November 22nd, 2024, at 11:00AM, with a luncheon to follow in Mitchell Hall. A livestream link is available on Betty's memorial page. Private family interment will take place at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
If desired, memorial gifts may be directed to St. George's Anglican Church (Guelph) or Hospice Simcoe (Barrie).
