Connie G. Norris, 81, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away at her daughter’s home in Silsbee, Texas on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 with her family at her side.
She was born on April 17, 1931 in Union, South Carolina to Ethel and Henry Gaines. She has been a resident of the area since 1947. Connie retired from the City of Port Arthur Police Department as an officer and a school guard with 32 years of service, she worked as a security officer and in the admissions office at Lamar-Port Arthur for 12 years. She was a member of St. Therese, Little Flower of Jesus Catholic Church. She will be passed through Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, where L. J. and Connie were married. Connie was a volunteer at Park Place Hospital and the Medical Center of Southeast Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, L. J. Norris and her daughter, Linda J. Mary Norris.
She is survived by her daughters, Karen Stelly and husband Darrell of Beaumont, Texas, Jan Shavers and husband Kenny of Silsbee, Texas, her son, Jerry Norris of Port Arthur, Texas, eight grandchildren, Kris Bourque, Jason Rodrigues, Kevin Wood, Josh Rodrigues, Kirk Wood, Kaleb Norris, Layne Norris and Jessica Shavers, nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, J. D. Gaines of Union, South Carolina, half-brother, Lester Tony of Florida, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 26, 2012 from 5 PM to 8 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Rev. Urbano R. Saenz serving as celebrant. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons.
