Richard Henry Smith

Richard Henry Smith, born September 1, 1940 in Columbus, OH unexpectedly passed away on February 13, 2024. Richard was a graduate of West High School class of 1958 and received his B.S. in Education from the Ohio State University in 1962. Richard taught in Southwest Local City Schools for 32 years before enjoying a long retirement that allowed him time to explore his interests and spend time with friends and family. Richard was an active member of the West High School Alumni Association and contributor of organizations dear to his heart. He is preceded in death by his parents, James E. and Helen (Henry) Smith; and partner, John C. Gessner. Richard is survived by his brother, Robert (Dianne) Smith of Grove City; nieces Aimee, Elizabeth (Ryan), and Carrie (Jay); and any many close friends. A funeral Service honoring Richard’s life will be held 10 AM Monday, February 19, 2024 at Schoedinger Grove City 4242 Hoover Rd (Hoover Rd at Kingston Ave). Richard’s family will receive friends following the service until 11:30 AM. Contributions in Richard’s memory will be accepted by the Legacy Fund of the Columbus Foundation and the West High School Alumni Association.
