Howard “Dick” Sheets, age 76, of Galloway, passed away at his residence on July 12, 2024 after a nine-month battle with lung cancer. He is the son of the late John D. Sheets and Edna M. (Miller) Sheets. Dick was the owner of Sheets Automotive Machine Shop where he started working with his father at the age of 15. He rebuilt engines and heads for over 57 years. A lifelong resident of Prairie Township, growing up he spent time around his grandmother’s farm and graduated from Pleasant View High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and fought in Vietnam. When he was discharged from the Army, he attended diesel mechanics school in Tennessee. An avid deer and turkey hunter, he was a proud member of the Ohio Big Bucks Club due to taking a trophy buck in 1985. He was a life member of Buckmasters and a supporter of Whitetails Unlimited and the National Wild Turkey Federation. Dick is survived by his wife Betty (Stanton) Sheets, children, Tina Young, Renee Gray and John (April) Sheets, grandchildren, James, Daniel, Jordan, Andrew, and Levi Hoop, Emma and Dylan Gray, Abigail, Isabelle, and Sebastian Sheets, brother, David (Susie) Sheets and several cousins, nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 from 6-8 pm at SCHOEDINGER GROVE CITY 4242 Hoover Rd. where his funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at 11 am with a visitation time beginning at 10 am.
