Edward P. “Ed” Waters Sr., age 66, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Mt. Carmel Grove City Hospital. Ed is a 1975 graduate of Franklin Heights High School where he met and fell in love with his wife of 46 years, Brenda (Scaggs) Waters, who he is survived by. He is also survived by his sons, Edward P. “Eddie” Waters Jr., Michael (Caitlin) Waters, grandsons, Austin and Beau Waters, sister, Stephanie (Craig) Slagle, twin brother, Charles Waters Jr. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Waters Sr., Mary (Cimini) Hiner, and stepfather John Hiner. Since 1976, Ed served the State of Ohio, starting out with the Ohio Department of Transportation, he then moved on to become a State Trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol in 1979, serving the citizens of Ohio for 24 years and retiring at the rank of Lieutenant. Ed then went on to work for The Ohio Inspector General’s office as an Investigator for 8 years and then returned to the Ohio Department of Transportation as an investigator for 9 years, finally retiring in 2023 for a total of 47 years with the State of Ohio. Ed was a hardworking man, but always found time for his family and was involved in every aspect, never missing a wrestling match or sporting event. Ed’s retirement plan was to enjoy what was most important to him, spending time with his wife, his family, and especially his grandsons, who lovingly know him as “Happi.” He planned to take them fishing on his new boat. Ed's lifelong passion for the Cleveland Browns led him to become a season ticket member with his sons. Ed’s most beloved part of being a season ticket member was gathering family and friends together for the pre-game tailgating in which he was the chef and host. Cooking for others permeated Ed’s life, where he lovingly cooked for his son's high school wrestling teams, and his many coworkers across his entire career. The family requests that all law enforcement and fire personnel attending the visitation and service for Ed wear their uniform of the day if permitted by your department. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024 from 12:00-2:00pm at Schoedinger Grove City, 4242 Hoover Road, Grove City, Ohio, 43123, with a Memorial Service beginning at 2:00 pm. Flowers and/or memorial contributions are equally welcomed. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider a donation to Lifeline of Ohio https://lifelineofohio.org/, to further the ultimate gift of organ donation. In Ed’s last and greatest selfless act on earth, Ed donated his vital organs so others may live.
