Dorinda (Jeanie) Adkins, age 84, went to meet her Lord and Savior on December 8, 2024. Jeanie's life was committed to two things, Faith and Family. Jeanie and her husband, Reverend Edward Adkins, spent over 40 years in ministry on the west side of Columbus. Together, with the help of many committed believers they built Bible Community Church. Their ministry started in an elementary school with folding chairs and an old piano, and grew into a beautiful Church, Christian school and Daycare that served thousands of families.
Jeanie loved her family. She was an amazing Mom and she loved her daughters unconditionally. She was a role model, a disciplinarian, a cheerleader and a voice of reason in times of trouble. She gave the best hugs when you were sad and had the biggest smile when you succeeded. She often said "All I ever wanted to be was a good Mom". She exceeded that goal and took it to the next level when she became a Grandma.
Jeanie was blessed with 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. There was nothing that gave her more joy than being with her grandkids and great grandkids. If we could have attached a "happiness meter" to her, it would have exploded when she was with them. She went to every football game, dance recital, soccer match, cheerleading competition, school play, graduation and band concert. She was there for all of it! She was the pretty lady in the stands cheering them on! She had so much pride and love for her grandkids.
Jeanie was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Reverend Edward Adkins, her parents; Harlow and Dorothy Arledge, her daughters; Amy Renee Adkins and Cindy Sue Asbury.
Jeanie is survived by her daughters: Sherry Adkins, Beth Whittington, Angela Faught and bonus daughter Chris Noel. Son-in-laws: Rodney Asbury, Thomas Whittington and Rob Faught. Grandchildren: Jennifer Asbury (Steven), Joseph (Sarah) Asbury, Kyle (Brooke) Schneider, AAron Whittington, Kristen (Anthony) Rodriguez, Mason Schneider (Dani), Alexis Whittington, Madison Schneider and Jason Whittington.
Great-grandchildren: Maggie and Otis Asbury, Kasen and Kamryn Schneider, Coralynn Asbury, Ava and Ivy Rodriguez.
Jeanie is also survived by her loving sisters: Sharon (Joe) Schneider, Penny (Brent) Liston and Patty (Kelton) Barthelmas. Her special nieces and nephews: Kim, Jeff, Kris, Michael, Kelly Jean, Amy, John and Tracy Lynn.
If you wish to honor Jeanie, please say a prayer for someone, give them a hug, say something kind, be a friend and above all love the Lord.
