Dr. William Charles Quinlan Jr., age 84, long time resident of Grosse Pointe, Michigan passed away on Friday, November 1, 2024. William was born on March 8, 1940 to the late Dr. William Charles Quinlan Sr. and Ellen Quinlan (nee Schroeder).
William is survived by his beloved wife, Marie Quinlan (nee O’Neil), and his loving son, William Charles Quinlan III.
William is preceded in death by his loving brother, David Frank Quinlan.
Growing up in Grosse Pointe, William attended Richard Elementary School and Brownell Middle School. William had a love for music from a young age, and while attending Brownell, he played the trombone and was a member of the marching band. William graduated from Grosse Pointe South High School in 1957, where he continued to play the trombone in the Marching Band. During his High School years, he fondly remembered being a check room boy at Pier Park in Grosse Pointe Farms, working as a Lifeguard in his later teen years, and was also a member of the Wolverine Boys State at Michigan State University. William was also a member of Boy Scouts of America, Eagle Scout Troup 96, and proudly earned the Bronze Palm when he was only 12 years old.
After graduating high school, William attended the University of Michigan from 1957-1959 and was a member of Psi Omega. He then transferred to Wayne State University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts and Chemistry in 1963. During this time, he enjoyed working as a Radioactive Isotope Tech at Detroit Receiving Hospital. He later attended the University of Detroit Dental School from 1964- 1968, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi, and graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree.
After college, William worked as a Dentist in Detroit from 1968-1977, and then opened his own practice in Grosse Pointe Woods in 1977, where he worked until 2024. William also had a love for boating and was a member of the Grosse Pointe Boat Club, where he became a Commodore in 1983, and then later a Fleet Captain from 1990- to present. He was also a member of the Detroit Yacht Club from 2000 to present.
A visitation for William will be held Wednesday, November 6, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236. A rosary will occur Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at 7:00 PM, 20705 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236. An instate will occur Thursday, November 7, 2024 at 9:30 AM at St. Paul on the Lake, 157 Lake Shore, Grosse Pointe Farms, MI 48236. A funeral mass will occur Thursday, November 7, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Paul on the Lake, 157 Lake Shore, Grosse Pointe Farms, MI 48236.
