Thomas Misuraca

Thomas Lawrence Misuraca, affectionately known as "Tom", age 68, a resident of Grosse Pointe Woods, formerly of St. Clair Shores, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, in Detroit. Tom was born on Saturday, February 25, 1950, in Detroit to Lawrence and Grace. As a young man, he worked alongside his father, mother, brother, sisters, uncles, aunts and cousins at his family corner grocery store, "The Vogue Market" on Cadieux in Detroit. He had many fond memories of making special-recipe Italian sausage with his family. Tom attended St. Isaac Jogues Catholic school, then on to Austin Catholic High School where he earned his diploma in 1968. Tom graduated from Brown University in 1972 and earned his Juris Doctorate at the Detroit College of Law in 1975, finishing among the top of his class. Tom married his high-school sweetheart and the love of his life Maria Bologna on July 29, 1972, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Detroit. Together they raised daughters Nina, born in 1975, and Grace, born in 1976, followed by twin sons James and Lawrence born nine years later in 1984. Tom was a partner at Garan Lucow Miller P.C. He joined the firm in 1980 and retired in 2016. He practiced medical malpractice, product liability law, and insurance defense. When Tom wasn't working you could find him on his boat cruising Lake St. Clair, which he kept at the Grosse Pointe Woods Park. He enjoyed taking his 28-foot Sea-Ray Sundancer, "The Mia, Nina, & Grace" to Strawberry Island, drifting in the North Channel, and watching the freighters in the shipping channel. On warm summer days, he would take his boat from Grosse Pointe down the Detroit River to the William G. Milliken State Park, slip his boat in a well, and ride his bike or walk to his office. Tom was a member of the Michigan Bar Association and the Detroit Athletic Club. Most important to Tom was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Beloved husband of Maria joined in love 47 years. Loving father of Nina (Brian) Ignaczak, Grace Ann (Chris) Tranchida, Lawrence P. (Lauren), and James (Ashli Ware). Dear grandfather of Lucy, Miles and Ruby Tranchida, Tommy and Maria Ignaczak, and Madeline Misuraca. Visitation Friday from 3-8 PM at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236. In state Saturday 9:30 AM until time of funeral Mass 10:00 AM at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 467 Fairford Road, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236.
