Ronald James “Coop” Cooper, a beloved dentist from the Detroit area, passed away on November 29, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on May 21, 1943, in Manistee, Michigan, Ron was the cherished only child of Alden and Lucille Cooper.
Ron spent his early years helping in his father’s bakery, where he learned the value of hard work and serving others. These experiences stayed with him throughout his life, molding his dedication to his career and community.
After completing his education at University of Michigan, Ron moved downstate to pursue his passion for dentistry, ultimately earning certification as an orthodontist. However, it was general dentistry that he enjoyed, and he established a thriving practice on the Eastside of Detroit, near Chalmers and Outer Drive. For decades, Ron cared for his patients with unmatched compassion, earning a reputation not only as a skilled dentist but also as a trusted friend to many. His employees often spoke of his generosity and fairness, qualities that made him a beloved employer and mentor.
Ron’s zest for life was contagious. Known for his youthful spirit, he often dressed in a way that mirrored his vibrant personality. He found joy on the golf course, sharing countless rounds and laughs with his friend Paul, with whom he also enjoyed playing pool. A true car enthusiast, Ron had a particular passion for classic cars, amassing a private collection that reflected his appreciation for timeless beauty and craftsmanship.
Above all, Ron was a man who brought light to everyone he met. His kindness, humor, and unwavering care for others left an indelible mark on his community and those fortunate enough to call him a friend. Though he is gone, the love and joy he brought into the world will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 13th at 2:00pm with visitation beginning at 1:30pm, where friends and loved ones will gather to celebrate the remarkable life of Ronald Cooper.
