Raymond Joseph Smith passed away peacefully on May 23, 2024 at the age of 86. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on January 18, 1938; son of Raymond and Marie Smith. He was the co-owner of Meldrum and Smith Nursery which had operated in the community for over 63 years. Ray married Judy Knack on August 29, 1959 at St Clare of Montefalco Church in Grosse Pointe Park. They enjoyed 53 loving years together until her passing on July 29, 2011.
Ray had many interests in life. He loved the outdoors, boating and fishing. He was also a devout catholic and an active member of St Clare of Montefalco Church. His hard working nature was evident and lives on through his children. Of all of his interests and hobbies, Ray loved spending time with his family the most.
He was proud of his children Raymond (Eileen) Smith, Bonnie Ireson, Susan (John) Cook, Meghan (Derek) Beers and the late Robert Smith. He adored his grandchildren Raymond, Matthew, Olivia, Paul, Brady, Cameron, and Blake. He will be missed by his loving siblings; Doris (the late Jerry) Decker, Marilyn (Wayne) Funk, Lawrence (the late Pam) Smith, and Karen (Gary) Ellis. Ray was predeceased by his sister Patricia (the late Vaughn) Adams. He will be missed by many loving friends and extended family members.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, June 14 at 10:00 am at St Paul on the Lake Catholic Church, 157 Lake Shore Rd, Grosse Pointe Farms. His family will receive guests at 9:30 am. His ashes will be interred next his beloved wife Judy’s ashes immediately after Mass at the Church columbarium.
