Paul Burton Martin, born in Lakewood Ohio November 17, 1951, passed away on September 18, 2024 peacefully in his home after having fought many health issues for several years. Paul was a lifelong Grosse Pointe resident who as a teenager was expelled from both Grosse Pointe South and Grosse Pointe North for smoking and skipping school. Paul remained passionate and opinionated, and loved to argue politics.
Paul was a Lineman by trade for cable TV and later a self-employed contractor. An avid fisherman, Paul once caught a giant Muskie at Pier Park, later being rescued by the paramedics with hypothermia while trying to release the fish. Paul loved his muscle cars, especially his 1969 Camaro Z-28 which would set off car alarms when he took it for a cruise. Paul considered himself a “shade tree mechanic” rebuilding his 1975 Corvette and several old MGBs. Paul’s pastime was playing guitar and had a deep love for dogs, being a loyal companion to 15 dogs during his lifetime.
Paul is survived by his wife Corinne, his step-children, Lashawn Farago (Scott), Philip LaBarge (Kate), grandchildren Alexandra and Grant DeVooght, Cora and Mina Farago, and his niece, Marcinia Harris (Dan) who was like a daughter to him. Paul is survived by his sister Cheryl Swarthout (Richard) and pre-deceased by his parents Fred Martin, and Marion Cornwell, and siblings, Jacqueline Formeister, Gregg and Jay Martin.
A Remembrance Gathering will be held at the Grosse Pointe Farms Pier Park at 350 Lakeshore Rd. Grosse Pointe Farms on October 2nd, 2024 from 5-7pm. Donations may be made to Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society at 296 Chalfonte Ave, Grosse Pointe Farms, MI 48236 or GPAAS.org.
