Paul R. Kerby, age 89, died peacefully on August 27, 2015 at William Beaumont HospitalGrosse Pointe. Paul was born on March 23, 1926 at home in Grosse Pointe Farms, the son of John R. and Corrine Kerby. He was a direct descedent of the Kerby family who owned the strip farm that Kerby Road is named after. Paul attended St. Paul on the Lake High School and was drafted into the US Navy in August, 1944. He was a Seaman, First Class and saw action in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He received the World War II Victory Ribbon and was honorably discharged in June 1946. While home on leave, Paul met Madeline Huvaere and the young couple were married on June 19, 1948. After the war, Paul was employed as a milkman and eventually became a butcher. He worked at several different grocers before his retirement in 1983 from Great Scott! Kroger. Paul enjoyed fishing, golf, playing cards, cooking, barbecuing and spending quality time with his family. Mr. and Mrs. Kerby were weekly volunteers at the Georgian East Nursing Home on Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe Woods for many years, cooking and barbecuing. Paul was an "Eastland Walker", a member of the St. Joan of Arc Seniors and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Paul is survived by his wife of 67 years, Madeline; their six children: Paul H. (Antoinette Vandenbussche-Abud), Madelynn Wiszowaty (Jerry), Brian (Diane), Steven (Candice), Cheryl Owsen and Kenneth (Andrea); 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and his brother, William J. He was predeceased by his siblings: Jack, Mary Catherine Aeschliman, Eugene, George, Rosalie Tamm and Mark. Visitation for Mr. Kerby will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening. His body will lie instate at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack at Overlake, St. Clair Shores from 11:30 a.m. Monday until Mass begins at 12 noon. Rev. Fr. Richard Bartoszek will officiate. The family has suggested memorials be made to either the Society of St. Vincent De Paul (St. Joan of Arc Conference), 22412 Overlake, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080 or Fr. Solanus Casey Guild, 1780 Mt. Elliott, Detroit 48207.
