Pamela Ann Schmidt, a retired career employee of Wayne County, current resident of Roscommon, MI, and lifelong hippie, passed away on August 16, 2019 at the age of 69 following a heart attack and stroke. She left this world peacefully, surrounded by family and loved by many, in a sun-filled room overlooking the lake in Petoskey, MI. Pam was born in Houghton Lake, MI on November 7, 1949 to Leonard and Mae Derus. She graduated from Houghton Lake High School in 1967. She married Glen H. Schmidt in 1975 and raised two equally strong-willed daughters, Laura Denlinger and Vikki Wilson. Her five-year-old granddaughter, Everly Wilson, was the apple of her eye. She is also survived by siblings Roy Derus, Karen Durling, and Jolyn Colon. Pam was a free spirit-stubborn, smart, and independent. She taught her daughters to work hard, laugh long, and fight fiercely for their beliefs. She was a treasured friend to many, a devoted union advocate, an active member of AFSCME Local 1659, a committed Democrat, an avid Rolling Stones fan, and an enthusiastic lover of animals. Twelve cats, ten dogs, a guinea pig, a rabbit, and a lovebird were eagerly waiting to welcome her in the hereafter. Visitation is scheduled for 9:30 am to noon on Monday, August 19 at A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Woods, 48236, followed by funeral service at noon in the A. H. Peters chapel and internment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations to one of Pams favorite charities, the no-kill animal shelter Few Steps from Home at www.fewstepsfromhome.com .
