John Lutfy, age 86, died peacefully on December 17, 2014 at Shorepointe Nursing Center in St. Clair Shores. John was born in Detroit on November 16, 1928, the son of George and Rasmia Lutfy. John attended barber college and owned his own barber shop on Harper Avenue near Dickerson in Detroit. He later worked as a custodian at Cottage Hospital in Grosse Pointe Farms until his retirement. John was a simple man who was devoted to his family and friends. He was a generous person and was a "prayer warrior" for anyone in need. He enjoyed gardening and was a former member of the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church choir in Detroit. He was an Eucharist Minister at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in St. Clair Shores and took communion to nursing home residents and shut ins. Visitation for Mr. Lutfy will be from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 8:00 o'clock Friday evening. His body will lie instate at Assumption Grotto Catholic Church, 13770 Gratiot Avenue in Detroit from 10:30 a.m. Saturday until mass begins at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Fr. John Bustamante will officiate. Interment will follow at the Church cemetery. The family has requested donations be offered for mass intentions.
