James Snyder, age 85, of Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2024. He was born in Detroit, attended St. Paul’s High School and after his enlistment in the Army, lived in the Grosse Pointe area the rest of his life.
He was a devoted husband to his wife Sue Ellen and they spent 60 years together building a life full of love of laughter. His family life brought him the most joy. His daughters fondly remember the many bike rides and the silly games he played with them as kids and the summers of fishing and boating in northern Michigan. He was always excited to spend time with his five grandchildren and they will all miss his creative story telling, many jokes, and countless trips to ice cream shops.
Jim retired in January of this year after more than fifty years as a real estate appraiser. He was passionate about his job and all of the friends he made in the industry. In his he free time he enjoyed playing golf with friends and family, fishing, flying around Michigan as a private pilot, and cheering on his favorite Detroit sports teams.
Everyone who met him instantly recognized the warmth and compassion in his heart. He will be greatly missed by all of his family, many friends and all of those whose lives were touched by his kindness.
He was the loving husband of Sue Ellen. Dear father of Kristin (Carl) Caballero and Jill (Todd) Sutherland. Beloved grandfather of Maria, Patrick, Nicholas, Ginger and April. Brother of Camille Galindo and Lawrence Snyder. He was predeceased by his sister, Susan Maiorana.
In state Monday, November 4, 2024 at 9:30 AM until his funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 467 Fairford, Grosse Pointe Woods.
