Anne Marie McCabe (born Raymond), 61, of Grosse Pointe Shores, passed away peacefully in her sleep, with her husband and children at her side, on May 28, 2021. Anne was born on September 16, 1959, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of the late Clarence and the late Patricia Raymond. She graduated from Regina High School in 1978.
Anne is survived by her loving husband, Thomas (Tom) McCabe; her sons, Luke and Matthew (Maria); and her daughter Marie (Jeffrey). She was the caring sister of eleven siblings, including the late James, the late Gerald, and the late Andrew. She is survived by five brothers, Patrick (Rose), Richard (the late Cathy), Lawrence, Robert (Coleen), and Matthew (Kari); three sisters, Mary (Richard), Clarice (Brian), and Julia; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Anne’s marriage with Tom lasted 40 years, the full relationship lasted even longer. Their exemplary love and friendship sustained them all the way to Anne’s final illness, through which Tom comforted and cared for her in their home.
Anne generously shared with others her profound love for the woods and waters of northeast Michigan, where she maintained a cabin near the Au Sable River in a secluded and serene corner of Oscoda. She was grateful for the time she spent there and for the family with whom she shared lifelong memories together.
Anne’s family and friends remember her as a singularly kind soul who sought her own happiness in the happiness of others. Her good-heartedness and smile are unforgettable. She was a gifted conversationalist and attentive listener, always in pursuit of a good story and laugh. Anne was deeply appreciative of her co-workers at Ascension St. John Hospital in Detroit, where she worked for 30+ years. She adored and seized every opportunity to shower affection on her three grandpups, Gus, Wynnie, and Murphy.
Anne’s family intends to celebrate her life with a memorial gathering for her in September (month of her birth), her favorite time of year to spend Up North. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Annie’s memory to Capuchin Soup Kitchen at 1820 Mount Elliott St., Detroit, MI, 48207.
