Born on June 18, 1937, in Fredonia, North Dakota, to the union of John and Bertha (Rudolf) Stevahn, Stan was the youngest of three boys. His family moved to a farm just 3.5 miles east of Wishek in 1942, where he spent his formative years.
A proud graduate of Wishek High School, Stan completed his education in 1957 before enlisting in the Army National Guard, serving from 1956 to 1962. On June 18, 1960, he married Evelyn Peterson in Wishek, and together they welcomed three children into their lives. Later, on August 13, 1970, Stan married Florence Peterson in Bismarck, North Dakota, and they were blessed with two more children.
In 1960, Stan purchased a farm north of Wishek, where he cultivated not only the land but also a deep love for his family. In 1970, he moved his family to Bismarck, and in the summer of 1972, they relocated to Oregon. Throughout his life, Stan held various jobs, including carpentry with his brother-in-law and assembly work at Wagner Mining and Daimler Freightliner Corp, from which he retired on January 26, 2001.
Stan was known for his quiet demeanor, but those who knew him well appreciated his fun-loving and humorous side. He found joy in working with his hands, often designing and building furniture that reflected his creativity. Stan loved to travel, enjoying trips to Mexico and cruises with friends. He had a fondness for old western movies, Polka music, and watching Molly B on TV. Above all, his family was his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Stan is survived by his two sons, Todd (Heather) Stevahn, of Portland, OR, and Corey Stevahn of Divide, CO; three daughters, Colleen (Michael) Collins of Nampa, ID, Stacey (Matthew) Haller of Gladstone, OR, and Macshelle Meeker of Gresham, OR; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister-in-law, Ruby Stevahn of Jamestown, ND; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grand nieces and great-grand nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bertha Stevahn; two brothers, Clarence and Almond Stevahn; and nephew, Dean Stevahn.
Stanley Stevahn will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his unwavering love for his family, and the joy he brought to those around him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
