Rod was a lifelong Oregonian. He moved to the Portland area in 1969. In 1941 Rod graduated from Rogue River Academy in Medford, Oregon.
Rod served his country in the Army during World War II and was stationed in the Phillipines.
Rod married Lois Sperry on April 8, 1944. Later they divorced. Rod married Dorothy Cowart on November 20, 1969 in Medford, Oregon. Dorothy preceded him in death on January 20, 2012.
Rod had numerous jobs. He was a Federal Meat Inspector. He had a passion for working on cars out of his garage for family and friends and also managed an auto body repair shop. Hobbies included boating, water skiing, gardening and spending time with his family. When he was younger he obtained his private pilot’s license.
Survivors include his four sons, Darell Woods, of Portland, OR., Dean Woods, of Portland, OR., Bernie Gallentine, of Battleground, WA., and Robert Hill, of Grants Pass, OR., two daughters, Valerie Woods, of Troutdale, OR., and Karen Thompson, of Portland, OR., brother Jim Woods, of Spokane, WA., numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Rod was preceded in death by a son James Gallentine and his brother Ted Woods.
Celebration of Rod’s life will be on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Rockwood Seventh-day Adventist Church located at 1910 SE 182nd Ave. in Portland, Oregon. Private burial will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
