A celebration of life funeral service for David will be held Friday, December 6, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd, Gresham, Oregon.
David Maurice Michael Shelton was born September 13th, 1945 in Salem OR. He died on Veterans Day November 11th, 2024 in Portland OR from complications of the heart and lungs. His father was Maurice who died in 2000 and his mother was Germaine who died in 2007.
David graduated from Bend high school and went on to get a degree in Architecture from the University of Oregon. He enlisted in the army in September of 1968. After boot camp he went to Vietnam where he did 3 tours as a Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol (LLRP). He was honorably discharged on April of 1971 as a SP5. He came home to finish college and went to work for Campbell & Yost an Architect firm in Portland, Oregon.
On July 4th, 1976 he met his future wife Nancy who was working for U.S. National Bank. They were married in August of 1977. In May of 1979 they had a son Michael who has a daughter Zoey and they live in Irrigon, OR. Then in June of 1982 they had their second son Matthew who is married to Stephanie. They have a daughter Addyson and a son Brock and they live in Fairview, OR. In October 1979 he went to work for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) as the architect for the West Coast. His two biggest projects were The Embarcadero Resort in Newport and the National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center in Baker City, OR.
David was on the Gresham Planning Commission from 1980-1992. He retired in 2007 and did a lot of Fishing and Hunting. He was a huge Oregon Duck football fan and enjoyed going to the games and watching them play on TV. His last deer hunting trip was with Matthew on Oct. 5th and was successful. His last day of fishing was Oct 20th with Michael and Zoey and they caught many fish which he couldn’t stop talking about.
He is survived by His wife, his 2 sons, his 3 grandkids, his sister Kathie and her 2 boys Christopher and Jeremy and his brother Doug and his husband David.
