Darlene was born in Portland, Oregon to Anslem “Ted” and Genevieve Gray. She grew up in Sandy and was the youngest of five siblings. After graduating from Sandy High School in 1959, she worked in downtown Portland doing office work.
She married Willi Heckel on August 10th, 1963 and raised two children, Steven and Lisa. The family lived on a berry farm in Boring where Darlene worked and managed farm operations.
One of the highlights of their life was a trip to Germany after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Darlene was from a family with deep roots in Sandy and was well connected to the history of town. She lived in the Sandy area most of her life and watched it grow to what it is today. Darlene had many interests and hobby’s including cooking, reading, watching classic movies, and was an avid sports fan, especially soccer.
She was preceded in death by her husband and son. She is survived by her daughter Lisa, grandchildren Jake, Sarah, Amanda, Abe, Kadi, and Kara, and great-grandchildren Mario, Roxy, Carmelo, Mason, and Tripp. She will be remembered as a wonderful, caring women.
