Colby David Worthylake was born January 15, 2002, in Gresham, Oregon to Dave and Cheri (Engstrom) Worthylake. The family moved to Boring, Oregon, when Colby was a baby. He attended grade and middle school in Boring and then Sandy High School. He was part of the unfortunate class of 2020 who missed the end of their senior year and graduation ceremony because of the Covid shutdown.
Colby was a warm, loving, compassionate young man who enjoyed hunting trips in eastern Oregon with his mom, dad, brother, grandpa Mick, uncles and friends, crabbing trips at the coast with his father (and sometimes his uncles), coming home from school and seeing his mom’s welcoming smile, their family camping trips to the coast, keeping track of the weather with his home weather station (he was an amazingly accurate forecaster more trusted by his family than most others), and he loved the snow and snowboarding on Mount Hood. Colby was very smart and had a great sense of humor. He loved making people laugh, even though he was usually quiet. From a very early age, he was as comfortable just being alone as he was being with others. He was a deep thinker, passionate about politics and very strong in his beliefs. He loved God and his family.
Colby is survived by his parents, Dave and Cheri Worthylake; his older brother, Cliff Worthylake; his maternal grandmother, Fran Engstrom; and his paternal grandparents, Mick and Sheryl Byrd. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Jim Worthylake (who died in 2000, before Colby was born), and his maternal grandparent, Jim Engstrom (who died in 2019 and was able to be a big part of Colby’s life). Colby is also survived by two uncles on his father’s side, Tim and Mike Worthylake, and an aunt and uncle on his mother’s side, Franke and Tammie Gillespie.
Colby left us much too soon and will be terribly missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, his family just asks for your prayers and respect of their need for privacy at this difficult time. Comments and remembrances on his memorial page at Bateman-Carroll Funeral Home will be appreciated. Thank you.
