A memorial service with firefighter honors for Brian will be held Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Pathway Church, 3848 NE Division Street, Gresham, Oregon.
On November 19, 2023, Brian Edward Flowers, a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and firefighter, passed away in Portland, Oregon after a valiant month-long battle with cancer. He was 48 years old.
Son to Karen and Don Flowers, Brian joined his older brother Brandon in Portland, Oregon. Brian's journey through life was marked by compassion, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community. He attended Marshall High School, graduating in 1993, where he showcased his strength and determination as a wrestler.
High school not only shaped his character but also introduced him to the love of his life, Elsie Ariola. Brian clearly recognized a catch when he saw one, and in 2000 Brian, the class clown, and Elsie, the studious one, were married in Portland. Their union was blessed with three beautiful children - Carina in 2001, Darian in 2004, and Anthony in 2009. They built their life in Gresham.
Brian's passion for serving his community led him to a fulfilling career as a firefighter, which he embarked on in 2008. Over 15 years of dedicated service, Brian became an integral part of the firefighting community, known for his selflessness and commitment. He was a proud member of the Water Rescue Team since 2013 and spent a decade based out of Station 75 in Troutdale.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Brian's impact extended far beyond the firehouse. He was the embodiment of the phrase "he would give you the shirt off his back." Brian's generosity knew no bounds, and he never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His family was the center of his universe, and he poured his heart into providing for them.
A true jack of all trades, Brian's skills knew no bounds. Whether is was building, fixing, or advising, he approached every task with a determination to excel. He was known to 'overbuild' everything he touched, a testament to his commitment to excellence. This commitment was demonstrated in his achievement of a 2nd degree Black Belt in Kajukenbo Kung Fu and is a titled Grand Champion in tournaments.
Brian's infectious laughter and jovial spirit made him the life of every gathering. His quick wit and ability to make others laugh endeared him to all that knew him. Brian was larger than life, and the world feels a bit dimmer without his radiant presence.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and knowledge, having diligently taught his children the skills and values they need to become exceptional adults. His son Darian, following in his father's footsteps, recently became a firefighter at the age of 19. He loved to take his kids fishing and hunting and always found a way to celebrate the things they enjoyed with them.
Brian's impact extended to his extended family, including his nieces and nephews who adored their 'Papa Brian'. His warm embrace reached far beyond, encompassing a multitude of cousins and their children, all of whom held a special place in his heart. His love for his wife, Elsie, was a beacon of strength, and his cherished moments with his father-in-law Gerry - fishing trips and casino visits - were a testament to their close bond. He loved any opportunity to go hunting with his dad, Don, and his brother, Brandon.
Brian Edward Flowers may have left this world too soon, but his spirit, laughter, and love will forever echo in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. May his legacy of love, laughter, and overbuild of everything live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to share a joke, a meal, or a moment with him. We love you Brian, Babe, Dad, Papa Brian, Uncle Brian, Kuya B, Biscuit, White Buffalo, Cracka, Coach, and Best Buddy.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in Brian's honor.
