Born in New York City, he was the son of Dr. Stratford Corbett Wallace and Dolorita Fitzgerald Wallace. He was a graduate of Georgetown University (‘59), Fordham Law School (‘62), and served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1964. He was a real estate attorney and managed his family’s New York City real estate properties.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Kathleen F. Wallace; his sisters, Marie Powers and Julia Wallace; his brother, William; his 5 children, Kathleen Wallace-Silver, Deborah Ruddy, Stratford Wallace Jr., Laurence, and Brendan; his grandchildren, Emily and Isabelle Silver; Peter, Luke, John, and Joseph Ruddy, Charlotte and Stratford “Ford” Wallace. He was predeceased by his sister, Dolorita Moore.
Stratford was a deeply devoted and loving husband, father and brother. He cherished spending time with family. He loved sailing, running, ocean swimming and family time in Spring Lake, N.J. and Chatham, Cape Cod. Like his beloved parents, he was passionate about New York City, particularly its real estate history.
Stratford was a devout Catholic and an ongoing supporter of many charitable organizations including the Little Sisters of the Assumption, Calvary Hospital, and the Haitian Health Foundation (HHF). He was deeply moved by his many visits to Haiti with the HHF.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 14, 2022 at 10:00am at their family church, St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 980 Park Avenue, New York, NY, 10028. Internment to immediately follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York.
