Born in Lima, Peru on October 12, 1945, Pamela was the daughter of William Andrew Krusen and Margarethe Mary Sauer of Tampa, Florida. She attended the Dana Hall School, a boarding school in Massachusetts, and received a B.A. in English from Vassar College. After graduating, she moved to New York City, where she first worked as a publisher at Harper & Row. She then joined the newly formed international Private Wealth Management division of the First National Citibank. She excelled in the role and was the first woman the bank sent to Latin America, where she called on private clients. Her competence and professionalism paved the way for other women to rise at Citibank.
Pamela left Citibank in 1975 to marry William Young Boyd II of Panama. The couple initially split their time between New York, Panama, and the Bahamas. In 1980, they welcomed a daughter, Virginia Bennett Boyd, and settled mainly in New York. They later divorced. In 1988, Pamela reconnected with a former colleague from Citibank, C. Robert (“Robbie”) P. Meyjes. They married in 1990 and lived in Chicago and then New York. Pamela and Robbie enjoyed 27 happy years together until Robbie’s passing in 2017.
Pamela was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother and friend to many. She served on several non-profit boards in Chicago and was an officer of the Colony Club in New York, serving as the President of the Club from 2014-17. She was a long-time member of St. James’ Church in New York, St. Andrews’ Dune Church in Southampton, The Southampton Garden Club, The Bathing Corporation of Southampton, The Meadow Club of Southampton, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Colonial Dames, the Society of Daughters of Holland Dames, and the Library Association of America.
Decisive, organized, and intelligent, Pamela was a force of nature. She was a natural leader who held herself to the highest standards in all her pursuits and maintained a firm sense of decorum, yet she was also warm and caring and always sought to welcome and include people. She will be remembered for her graciousness, elegance, kindness, loving nature, and devotion to family and friends.
She is survived by her three brothers William Andrew Krusen Jr., Cristóbal Krusen, and Charles Krusen and their families; her daughter Virginia Boyd Lockhart; son-in-law J.B. Lockhart; and grandchildren James, Alexander, and Clara Lockhart; as well as four stepchildren and their families.
A Memorial Service for Pamela will be held at 3 pm on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at St. James Church at 71st Street and Madison Avenue in New York City.
