William "Bill" H. Burgin, age 79, of Greenville, South Carolina went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, June 30, 2022. Bill was born in Greenville, S.C. to the late Lewis C. and Thelma (Seagle) Burgin.
He graduated Greenville High School in 1960 and served four years in the United States Army stationed in Texas and Germany. He returned to Greenville where he joined Seaboard Coastline (now CSX) Railroad as a railroad engineer, and later worked as a technician with Engineered Systems. Bill loved trains and built model train sets -- the last one he built for his grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening, working in the yard, and fixing practically anything. He was always willing to lend a hand to his family, neighbors, friends and anyone in need. Bill was gifted as a humble and kind man, which made him a true “people person”, never meeting a stranger or someone with whom he couldn’t strike up a conversation. He loved the Lord and was a long-time member of Lee Road Baptist Church in Taylors, S.C.
He is predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Gloria Grant Burgin.
He is survived by his children, David W. Burgin and Kristan B. Gillespie and her husband, Brian, all of Greenville; his brother, Jim Burgin and his wife, Sandra, of Greenville; and his beloved grandchildren, Liam, Reid, and Grant Burgin, and Isabella and Sydney Kate Gillespie.
A memorial service for Bill will be held in the fall of 2022.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mackeycenturydrive.com for the Burgin family.
