Dr. Thomas Edward Nix, MD, passed away peacefully at the age of 72, surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted husband to Betty, a cherished father to his children, and a beloved grandfather to his grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his wife of 46 years, Betty Black Nix; and their children, Edward Cassidy Nix, Kristy Nix Young (Thomas), and Katherine Nix Hinshelwood (Jonathan); his sibling, John Kenneth Nix (Cathy); and Ed and Betty’s six grandchildren, Thomas Rudolph Young V, John Wallace Young, Mattie Mae Young, Sarah Elizabeth Hinshelwood, Morris Alexander Hinshelwood, and Charles Thomas Hinshelwood, and many nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded by his father John Luther Nix, mother Sarah Highsmith Nix, and sister Latrelle Nix Edwards.
Ed graduated from White County High School in Cleveland, GA and The University of Georgia. He earned his medical degree at The Medical College of Georgia and completed his Otolaryngology residency at Emory University. Ed was a respected physician, known for his dedication to his patients and his unwavering commitment to excellence in his field. Outside of his medical practice, he was a man of many passions. He was an avid golfer, finding joy and relaxation on the green. He had a deep love for the sea and spent many happy hours sailing boats, embracing the beauty and serenity of the open water. Ed was also a skilled pilot, taking to the skies with a sense of adventure and freedom.
His family, friends, and colleagues will always remember Ed as a kind-hearted and generous man, who lived life to the fullest and touched the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A private graveside for Ed will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.
