Roy was born on March 17, 1944 to Roy Austin Turner Sr. and Thelma Center Turner in Greenville, South Carolina and was a graduate of Wade Hampton High School. He was a car enthusiast who has driven and repaired just about every car known. However, his 1957 Red Corvette remained his first love.
By his father’s side, Roy began working on cars at the age of 8 years old. By the age of 19, he was operating his own gas station. He helped design and open a number of collision repair departments for major car dealerships throughout South Carolina. Roy also managed these departments for several large car dealerships in the local Greenville area. In his later years, he invested 15 years (2000-2015) as a private investigator with Sutton Investigations in Greenville, SC.
Roy is survived by his wife, Vickie Conner Fortune; his son, Bryan (Cindy) Turner and their daughter, Allison; his son, Douglas (Allison) Turner and their daughter, Kayla; his step-son, Ken A. (Susan) Kuenzli and their children, Grace, Elizabeth and Zachary; and his step-son, Dennis M. Kuenzli (fiancé, Terra Ross) and grandson, Grayson; his Aunt Mackie Turner of North Augusta, SC; his sister, Patricia Alliston of Daytona Beach, FL; his brother-in-law, Dennis E. (Wanda) Conner of Kings Mtn. NC; and special friends, Henry and Nancy Mashburn and Mario Pascual of Greenville, SC.
Roy was preceded in death by his first wife Beverly Crainshaw Turner; and his wife Carol Sutton Turner; his father Roy Austin Turner Sr. and his mother Thelma Center Turner.
A Memorial Service for Roy will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2022 at 12:00 pm at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609 followed by a committal service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greenville Humane Society, 305 Airport Road, Greenville, SC 29607.
