Doug was born to Plato and Merle Tate on August 11, 1936 in Greenville, South Carolina.
Doug and his wife Pat celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in November. Together they have two daughters, Melisa “Lisa” Tate Owen and the late Kelli Tate Morris. He has two grandchildren, Kayci Owen Boone and Andrew James Owen and three great-grandchildren. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the light of his life and he took every opportunity to spend time with them.
Doug has been a loyal servant of Christ and an active member of City View First Baptist Church for over 60 years. He has faithfully served in many different ministries over the years and deeply loves his church home and church family.
Doug joins his daughter, Kelli Tate Morris, son-in-law, James “Jimmy” Palmer Owen III, and brother Nigel Tate in Heaven. He is survived by his wife, Pat, daughter Lisa, grandchildren, Kayci (Brad), Andrew (Megan), great-grandchildren Blake Adelaide Boone, Adeline Palmer Boone, and Andrew James Owen Jr, son-in-law, Richard Morris, sisters Madelyn Boling (Pete), Marilyn Edwards and sister-in-law JoAnn Tate.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:15 PM at City View First Baptist Church, 2300 West Blue Ridge Dr., Greenville, SC 29611. A funeral service will immediately follow visitation, at 1:30 PM. A graveside service will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Dr, Greenville, SC 29609
